Black Magnepan's tall, skinny, three-way, full range, quasi-ribbon, dipole MG 1.6 floorstander as one of my favorite loudspeakers. High in resolution, low in distortion, with enough bass and treble (of superlatively high quality) to satisfy anyone including a headbanger, and a midrange that reproduces well-recorded voices and acoustic instruments with jaw-dropping realism, it is one of those "sweet-spot" wonders that pops up every decade or two.
The acoustic from the speakers are so real - I would get asked ''how do you get the drums and piano to sound so real"" here is one of my secrets. You can just tell when acoustic comes from paper speakers or horns yuk! not out of the instrument itself - not with these loud speakers added to the mix, they give that real instrument sound, if you look real close you can see right thru them, and if you look you can see inside of one pan an area for highs a second area for upper level tones and a midrange tone area, they do not send much bass but what they do is make vocals and piano, horns, violins, drums etc.... sound live.
I had an older man standing in the middle of my gear setup and he was asking me how I was doing that real sound piano thing with the Kurzweil keyboard and told me he was hooked to live events and never heard anything like this before. I asked him "who is your favorite artist"? He told me "Frank Sinatra" I had some Frank so I played it thru the system for him, then I looked at him slumped over he’s eyes filled with tears I asked him "you ok? What’s wrong?" He said "man it sounds just like Frank standing here" he added "I seen him live and this is exactly what it sounded like"
